Luigi Vanfretti – Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical, Computer and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute –  first learned of Modelica’s multi-domain modeling properties in 2003but it wasn’t until 2011 when he received a grant to start learning and utilizing Modelica technology in his research and applications. To advance his Modelica skills, Professor Vanfretti contacted the experts at Modelon to attend training courses which included: Introduction to Modelica and Controls in Modelica.

“Modelon experts that lead training courses teach at the same level or better than most academic faculty. Our level of productivity went from taking 80 hours to do something to 2 hours for the same task.”  – Professor Vanfretti

With this new knowledge in hand, Professor Vanfretti was able to advance his power and grid simulations from low-level research to technology readiness levels 3 and beyond. Modelicaalong with the Functional Mock-up Interfaceallowed for both scalable and reproducible modeling andbecause it isn’t restrictive to using domain specific tools, he was free from contracts – a benefit of both time and cost.

“I have the peace of mind to know my Modelica models will withstand the test of time and can be deployed in any environment at a fraction of the price of an enterprise level tool license. ” – Professor Vanfretti

Professor Vanfretti is currently a user of Modelon’s Electric Power Library, Fuel Cell Library, and Hydro Power Library.
