Introduction

The main share of the electricity produced in Norway is based on utilisation of the nation’s large potential of hydro power. Today are nearly all the large waterfalls profitable for hydro power production already utilised, or protected against encroachment on nature. Due to this, there has for the last decades been an expansion in the number of small hydro power stations below 10MW. This is often minor projects where the power station is located near a small waterfall owned by a local landowner.
