NAFEMS’ Webinar – FMI 3.0
The Functional Mock-up Interface 3.0 – New Features Enabling New Applications
Hubertus Tummescheit, Modelon’s Chief Solutions Officer, will take part in the NAFEMS’ webinar on Thursday, Februrary 9, 2023 at 10:00 AM EDT. Click here to register.
Presentation Overview: The Functional-Mockup Interface, short FMI, has established itself as the de-facto standard for interoperability in the system simulation domain. Since version 2.0 was released in 2014, more than 170 tools have announced support for it, and in addition, there are many more in-house tools using it.
FMI 3.0 has been released in the summer of 2022 and is a major upgrade of the standard in terms of functionality. The new features increase the capabilities of the standard, especially for the following applications:
- Improved support for engineering digital twins
- Much improved support for advanced co-simulation algorithms
- Support for the use of FMI as virtual ECUs in the automotive industry
- Improved support for integration with Machine learning algorithms
- Better support for graphical user interfaces
In addition, FMI 3.0 introduces layered standards, which allow a customized combination with other standards. This can be used to integrate collaboratively with other standards. Layered standards are of great use too, e.g., combine FMI with industry-specific standards without overloading the core standard with features that are only supported by specialized tools. The FMI standard is part of an interoperable family of simulation standards developed and promoted by the Modelica Association, a Swedish non-profit organization.
