Modelon brings to market FMI Composer – the first tool built entirely on the FMI and SSP standards.

Modelon is pleased to announce the release of our newest FMI product, FMI Composer –  a software platform enabling rapid creation, manipulation and deployment of FMI-based system models.  FMI Composer is the first tool in the market built entirely on the FMI and upcoming SSP standards.

In less than 10 years FMI has established itself as a staple for simulation engineers – enabling collaboration across teams and organizations. The power and purpose of the FMI standard lies in its ability to enable collaboration through the exporting of FMUs; but a greater need has risen for models to maintain validity, longevity, and interoperability as systems advance. This means that models must be operated across various boundaries including individuals, departments, organizations, and even industries.

The FMI companion standard, SSP (System Structure and Parameterization), is soon-to-be-released in early 2018 and defines an open format for describing systems of connected FMUs and the parameterization of such systems. SSP enables users to define how FMUs are connected to other FMUs and to external inputs and outputs. Optionally, graphical layout information can be provided to visualize system structure in a standardized way and allow for drag-and-drop type modeling.

Modelon’s FMI Composer offers users the ability to build system models, save in an open ssp format, export files as FMU, and simulate in their tool of choice. By leveraging the power of open standards users can connect FMUs, therefore optimizing the use of models across organizations and industries.

“Our goal at Modelon is to continue challenging the status quo by providing solutions that fit the needs of simulation engineers everywhere, no matter the industry. FMI technologies have been a tried-and-true success with now more than one hundred tools utilizing the standard for their models. As we see it, FMI Composer takes this success one step further and fully builds off FMI standards and engages teams and organizations globally” said Maria Henningsson, Modelon’s FMI Product Manager.

Key capabilities of FMI Composer:

Key capabilities of FMI Composer:

  • Build systems of multiple FMUs and save in standardized format: SSP
  • Define system architectures to enforce interfaces between component models
  • View FMU information including: parameters, variables, and meta data
  • Export SSP systems to FMU – enabling co-simulation in any tool capable of FMI import
  • Convert FMUs from Model Exchange (ME) to Co-Simulation (CS)
  • Create black-box FMUs that hide internal information
  • Create interface models in Simulink and Modelica that can be used to develop models adhering to a specified component interface
